Jane McKenzie
‘Black and White and Red All Over’ Tower
‘Black and White and Red All Over’ is a series of vessels made by Jane McKenzie with the potential to hold foliage, flowers or stand alone. The title references the materials used to make the vessels and her affection for ‘dad jokes’. Like most of her sculptures, the vessels are loosely inspired by architecture, but in particular, these were inspired by the towers of Le Corbusier’s Notre Dame du Haut, Ronchamp. Isamu Noguchi’s ‘Lonely Tower’, made in 1952, was another point of reference. The vessels are one-offs, hand built using slabs of terracotta clay and glazed where water can be held.
